Ruff Creek, PA
Grand Opening October 30, 2009
The UMWA Career Centers, Inc. received a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) grant from the State of Pennsylvania through Governor Rendell. The State of the Art Simulated Mine facility is being constructed on the newly acquired 66 acres of property in Prosperity PA (locally referred to Ruff Creek)

The simulated coal mine will be located to the top left of this photo in what used to be the parking area. Once completed, Mine Rescue Teams and First Responders will use the facility for training and for competitions. The New Inexperienced Miner program, operated by the UMWA Career Centers, Inc., will also utilize the facility for learning such skills as setting posts, escape ways, ventilation and mapping.
